About This Release
An archival live recording from Club 7 in Oslo, capturing the great South African bassist Johnny Mbizo Dyani — a key figure of the exiled South African jazz diaspora and a member of the Blue Notes and Brotherhood of Breath — with Norwegian saxophonist Frode Gjerstad and drummer Eivin One Pedersen. Released by Not Two in 2017, Detail at Club 7 preserves a valuable document of Dyani, who died in 1986, in the company of the young Norwegian improvisers of the group Detail, bridging South African and Scandinavian free music.
