About This Release

An archival recording from 1996, released by Not Two in 2016, capturing a trio of pianist Borah Bergman, Peter Brötzmann and Norwegian saxophonist Frode Gjerstad. Bergman — a singular figure known for his radical two-handed independence at the piano, who died in 2012 — here meets two strong reed voices in fervent free improvisation. Left preserves a previously unissued document of three distinctive improvisers, a valuable addition to the historical record of 1990s free jazz.

Critical Reception
It's a welcome reminder of the pianist's virtues, and that there has been no-one comparable since.
