About This Release
A septet recording by violist-composer Szilárd Mezei, written for a seven-piece group. Polar (2015) shows the broader, darker-hued side of his ensemble writing; the larger palette of voices lets Mezei build the dense, slowly unfolding structures — drawn from the Hungarian folk idiom of his native Vojvodina yet thoroughly contemporary — that mark his most ambitious work.
