Melt!

Melt! brings together two distinctive voices of the Polish free‑improv scene: Kraków‑based saxophonist Paulina Owczarek and Trójmiasto reedist Tomasz Gądecki. Released by Not Two in 2014, the album captures the raw vitality of a younger generation of Polish improvisers with whom the label maintained a close, ongoing relationship alongside its international roster. Owczarek—active on alto and baritone saxophones and known for her work with large improvising collectives such as the Kraków Improvisers Orchestra—shapes sound through a physical, textural approach that explores structure, resonance, and performativity. Gądecki, one of the most distinctive saxophonists of Poland’s free‑improv movement, merges jazz expression with experiment, noise, and performance art, working in a language where composition and improvisation dissolve into a single, unrepeatable sonic event. Together, they form a vivid snapshot of Poland’s evolving avant‑jazz landscape.
