A quintet recording by violist-composer Szilárd Mezei, the Hungarian musician from Vojvodina in northern Serbia. Singing Elephant (2012) presents his writing for a five-piece group, the lean instrumentation throwing his angular melodic lines and the folk roots of his material into sharp relief — music that sits between the concert hall, the Hungarian village tradition and the free-improvising ensemble.
