About This Release
A studio album by the Resonance Ensemble, its title — What Country Is This? — pointedly evoking the multinational makeup of a band that fused Chicago, Scandinavian and Polish players under Vandermark's pen. By this third release the ten-piece group had become a genuine repertory ensemble rather than a one-off gathering, and the writing makes full use of its unusual instrumentation, from massed reeds to tuba and electronics.
