Double Arc

by The Resonance Ensemble
About This Release

The final studio album by the Resonance Ensemble, recorded in November 2013 at Kraków's Manggha Culture Center. Across fourteen sections of Vandermark's writing, the long-running band — Broo, Rempis, Trzaska, Zimpel, Swell, Holmlander, Tokar, the twin drums of Zerang and Daisy, and Kurzmann's electronics — sums up the group's achievement: large-scale composition shot through with open improvisation. A capstone to the ensemble that anchored Vandermark's relationship with the label.

Critical Reception
Big band funk moves into stoic minimalism, then to free jazz, improvisation, free bop, and so forth.
