A trio led by Chicago pianist Paul Giallorenzo, one of the key organizers, catalysts, and quietly essential players on that city’s creative‑music scene. Released by Not Two in 2012, the album captures Giallorenzo’s group moving fluidly between composed frameworks and open improvisation—an approach that mirrors both his own “inside‑out” aesthetic and the deep bench of Chicago improvisers the label has championed throughout its history.

For this session, Giallorenzo is joined by Norwegian bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and Chicago drummer Tim Daisy, two musicians whose histories in free jazz, post‑Bop abstraction, and high‑energy improvisation give the trio a wide expressive range. Together they navigate material that stretches from tightly shaped themes to expansive, spontaneous forms, always with a sense of clarity, momentum, and shared purpose.

Originally from Long Island and long based in Chicago, Giallorenzo has built a reputation as an improviser, composer, producer, and sound designer who moves easily between piano, synthesizer, electronics, and hybrid electro‑acoustic settings. Critics have praised his ability to push “conventional” jazz toward greater freedom while bringing structure and melodic logic to more avant‑garde terrain.
