A trio of collective improvisations by pianist Matthew Shipp, bassist Mark Helias and Canadian guitarist and oud player Gordon Grdina, recorded in Vancouver in 2018. Named after the Skin and Bones concert series at which the trio had just performed, the album marks the first recorded meeting of Shipp with both Helias — a lower-east-side neighbour — and Grdina, who challenges himself with new partners on each release. Seven wholly improvised pieces cohere with a suite-like quality, igniting smaller fires rather than pyrotechnics.
