A duo recording uniting two pillars of the New York creative-music scene: multi-instrumentalist Daniel Carter and pianist Matthew Shipp, longtime figures of the city's free-jazz community. Released by Not Two in 2020, Dark Matrix documents an intimate, deeply intuitive meeting between two improvisers whose paths had long crossed, Carter's reeds and brass meeting Shipp's distinctive, architecturally minded pianism.
