A trio recording uniting multi-instrumentalist Joe McPhee with bassist Damon Smith and drummer Alvin Fielder, a revered elder of the AACM and a founding figure of Chicago's creative-music scene. Released by Not Two in 2017, Six Situations documents three improvisers of different generations sharing a strong rapport, McPhee's vocal saxophone and pocket trumpet meeting Smith's resourceful bass and Fielder's deeply musical percussion across six freely improvised pieces.
