A quartet led by Portuguese tenor saxophonist Rodrigo Amado — one of the most prominent voices in European free jazz — with cornetist Taylor Ho Bynum, bassist John Hébert and drummer Gerald Cleaver. Recorded in 2010, Searching for Adam was the first time these four had ever played together, yet they quickly forged a unique ensemble language; its pieces, inspired by Amado's photographs of urban life, move through the essential textures of jazz, from bop and blues to pure abstraction, ending in restraint and beauty. A vivid example of the trans-Atlantic meetings that define the label.
