A live recording by the Ganelin Trio Priority — a latter-day incarnation of the legendary Ganelin Trio, the group whose pianist Vyacheslav Ganelin led the most celebrated ensemble in Soviet-era jazz. Here joined by Lithuanian soprano saxophonist Petras Vyšniauskas and drummer Klaus Kugel and captured in Lugano in 2006, the trio extends Ganelin's singular vision, drawing American free-jazz methods into deep dialogue with European concert and folk traditions. A significant document connecting one of improvised music's great historical lineages to the present.
