A second Not Two release by trumpeter Jerzy Małek, following his earlier By Five, “Gift” (2002) arrives as a surprisingly straight‑ahead, contemporary‑jazz statement on a label best known for free improvisation. In the early years of the twenty‑first century, Not Two was still wide open in its aesthetic range, and Małek’s quintet session reflects that moment — a polished, modern mainstream date led by a trumpeter who was rapidly becoming a ubiquitous presence on the Polish scene and sharpening his voice as both leader and composer.
