“Before Then” documents four nights of deep improvisational exploration by Tim Trevor‑Briscoe‑Briscoe, Szilárd Mezei, and Nicola Guazzaloca, recorded across Hungary and Serbia in November 2019. Across this expansive four‑CD set, the trio shapes a music that feels both intimate and unbounded, moving with the fluid logic of players who trust the moment more than any predetermined structure. Trevor‑Briscoe’s clarinet and alto saxophone lines drift between whispered contours and sudden, incisive bursts, while Mezei’s viola provides a resonant center of gravity, shifting from grainy arco textures to sharply etched melodic fragments.
