About This Release

“Kraków 2018” captures Gush 30 at a moment when three decades of shared language crystallize into a music that feels both newly ignited and deeply lived‑in. Recorded over three nights at Alchemia and Manga in late November 2018, the trio of Mats Gustafsson, Sten Sandell, and Raymond Strid moves with the assurance of musicians who have spent years shaping a vocabulary where breath, resonance, and pulse are inseparable. Gustafsson’s reeds stretch toward the grain of the human voice, Sandell’s piano folds lyricism into percussive architecture, and Strid’s drumming flows with an enigmatic, shifting clarity that binds the music without ever containing it. Across the extended performances, the trio opens its world to a remarkable constellation of guests—Sofia Jernberg, Anders Nyqvist, Philipp Wachsmann, Christine Abdelnour, Jörgen Adolfsson, Peter Söderberg, and Sven‑Åke Johansson—each adding new angles of color, tension, and breath. What emerges is a sweeping, three‑CD document of Gush 30’s 30th anniversary: long arcs of sound that rise and fall like weather fronts, sudden flashes of intensity that dissolve into quiet detail, and a collective sense of form that feels organic, unforced, and utterly alive. “Kraków 2018” stands as both a celebration and a reaffirmation—an ensemble returning to its core identity while expanding its reach, offering music that is physical, luminous, and unmistakably its own.

Critical Reception
Long radius flows of sounds interspersed with out of the blue edgy peaks, combined with smooth moments to take a breath; blinding, flashing lights and pitch darkness, concrete musique tones, delivering the marvelous result of physical and intellectual sheer pleasure.
