A volume in saxophonist Mars Williams's An Ayler Xmas series, which ingeniously interweaves the spiritual free-jazz themes of Albert Ayler with traditional Christmas carols. Recorded live in Kraków, this edition features the late trumpeter Jaimie Branch — a rising star of the new jazz generation — alongside Knox Chandler, Mark Tokar and Klaus Kugel. Williams, a veteran of the Chicago scene, leads a joyous, irreverent celebration that became a beloved seasonal tradition, here given particular poignancy by Branch's presence.
