About This Release
An ambitious five-CD box set by British bassist-composer Barry Guy's 14-piece Blue Shroud Band, recorded at the Alchemia club in Kraków in 2016. Conceived as a tribute to the late pianist Cecil Taylor, Odes and Meditations for Cecil Taylor (also known as Intensegrity) presents the ensemble in a wide range of configurations from duos to full group, with poetry by Marilyn Crispell sung by Savina Yannatou. The fourth in Guy's series of small-formation documents for the label, it stands among the most monumental and acclaimed projects in the catalog, a landmark homage to one of free jazz's great figures.
