Threefold

Threefold marks the debut of a multinational trio led by Andalusian drummer Ramón López, joined by British trumpeter Percy Pursglove and Polish acoustic bass guitarist Rafał Mazur. The ensemble grew out of López’s and Pursglove’s shared work in Barry Guy’s Blue Shroud Band, with this session representing Mazur’s first collaboration with López.

The program alternates López’s compositions with collective improvisations—four written pieces interwoven with six freely improvised tracks. The transitions between the two modes are seamless, underscoring the trio’s unified approach. Pursglove’s trumpet and flugelhorn are captured with intimacy and clarity, Mazur’s acoustic bass guitar provides a rounded, electro‑acoustic resonance, and López’s percussion anchors the sound with crisp precision. Together, the three musicians create a sonic signature that balances composed frameworks with spontaneous exploration, highlighting the trio’s ability to move fluidly between structure and freedom.
