A trio of free improvisations by three virtuosos of extended technique: American trumpeter Peter Evans, Catalan pianist Agustí Fernández and Swedish reed player Mats Gustafsson. Their second album as a trio, A Quietness of Water (2017) takes its song titles from the poems of Robert Creeley, and matches that poet's spare directness with music of astonishing sonic range — Evans's trumpet by turns siren, growl and microtonal whirl, Fernández working inside the piano, Gustafsson puffing and grunting through his horn. A tour de force of contemporary collective improvisation, widely acclaimed on release.
