The Power Of Light

by Oluyemi Thomas, Henry Grimes
About This Release

A live duo recording uniting multi-instrumentalist Oluyemi Thomas — playing bass clarinet, soprano saxophone, musette and wooden flute — with the legendary bassist Henry Grimes, captured in Pittsburgh in 2006. Grimes, who had returned to music in 2003 after a 35-year absence from the scene, was among the most storied figures in free jazz, and this first meeting between the two players unfolds as a continuous, spirit-driven suite. A valuable document of Grimes in the renaissance of his late career.

Free jazz with prominent elements of spiritual improvisation, diverging from structured jazz forms through its emphasis on spontaneous, unstructured expression.
