An album by the quartet of pianist-composer Satoko Fujii — among the most prolific and singular figures in contemporary improvised music — with trumpeter Natsuki Tamura, electric bassist Takeharu Hayakawa and drummer Tatsuya Yoshida of the Japanese progressive-rock band Ruins. Recorded in Tokyo in 2003, Zephyros fuses Fujii's wide-ranging compositional vision with the muscular, punk-edged energy of her rhythm section, a combination critics have likened to Cecil Taylor meeting a hardcore rock band. It marks the beginning of Fujii's long and continuing relationship with Not Two.
