About This Release

A duo recording uniting Chicago reed player Ken Vandermark with British bassist-composer Barry Guy, two of the most important figures in their respective scenes. Released by Not Two in 2015, Occasional Poems documents a meeting of equals — Vandermark's muscular reeds and Guy's virtuosic, orchestrally minded bass — in finely detailed free improvisation, a notable encounter across the American and European avant-gardes.
