A cooperative quintet uniting musicians from the Polish port city of Sopot and the German port of Hamburg, co‑led on the Polish side by saxophonist Maciej Sikała — a former member of the legendary yass band Miłość. Released by Not Two in 2002, the album embodies the cross‑border, two‑cities‑one‑band spirit that runs through much of the label’s early catalog, drawing on the long maritime and cultural ties between the Baltic neighbours. Sopot–Hamburg Jazz Quintet presents seven original compositions by the band members, shaped by dynamic improvisations, intricate harmonies, and expressive solo work. The result is a vivid snapshot of Polish‑German jazz dialogue at the turn of the century, grounded in shared coastal roots yet open to a broad, contemporary sound.
